The Cape Town hotel with a killer Vue

Cape Town - This past week I was given the opportunity to visit one of Cape Town’s newest additions to the Apart Hotels trend (actually they’ve been around since December 2015).

Was I nervous? I think that’s an understatement. My day-to-day experience of attending swish media events is zilch. But I thought what the heck, it’s a night out and I get to take gorgeous pictures of the Mother City from the rooftop of the Capital Mirage in De Waterkant.

You see my first love is photography. I see beauty in things that some just brush off as being an eyesore or say “Oh, it’s pretty, it’s okay.”

And no, photography is not just about F-stops or shutter speed. It’s about capturing moments that have real meaning for me. And that’s why I love taking photos of flame-tinted sunsets or dangling my feet from mountain tops. But most of all I love capturing Cape Town in all her smug glory - she’s cocky and confident and I want to document her every move.

And for this very reason, off to De Waterkant I went, armed with my camera and Dutch courage...

The hotel affords stunning 360 degree views of the city. Even from the rooftop bar, visitors to Cape Town are in for a treat as clouds blanket the mountain with their hazy gaze - welcome to winter in the Mother City!

The evening started off with guests seemlessly checking in and then shown to their suites.

Then off for some welcome drinks and fresh oysters.

The official launch of the hotel was hosted by Expresso’s Lee-Anne Williams. Thereafter we were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the different apartments.

Think chic-city living with serviced apartments containing luxury appliances and even washing machines - no need to pay extra for your dry-cleaning anymore!

According to the group’s press release, a total of 65 oversized rooms and apartments offer a selection of luxury and superior studios or one, two, or three bedroom apartments. Stunning floor to ceiling vistas, immaculate en-suite bathrooms and inviting lounges with oversized LED televisions are all offered.

“The Capital Mirage is the company’s most sophisticated offering to date, offering a lifestyle in a league of its own. As Cape Town’s first new hotel development since the World Cup in 2010, we were essentially able to create a true 21st century offering from scratch, complete with all the necessary services and conveniences,” says the group’s MD, Marc Wachsberger.

Apparently serviced apartments, also known as ‘extended stay’ or ‘Apart Hotels’ is the largest growing sector accounting for nine percent of total hotel rooms worldwide, says the press release.

“The Capital Hotel Group is at the forefront of this growth as there are only approximately 20 properties of this nature in South Africa, with Capital owning 40 percent of these, with its luxury properties situated predominantly in Johannesburg’s Northern Suburbs.”

There are three restaurants to choose from, and in-room dining is provided by the Cattle Baron, while the Gin & Snooker lounge, as well as the magical The Vue skybar, situated on the hotel’s rooftop all invite you to move, mix, mingle or simply recharge.

“The hotel industry is full of frills and hotels are largely managed on egos, meaning they are generally over-capitalised and expensive,” Wachsberger adds.

The Capital Mirage Cape Town is the perfect winter getaway. it’s sleek and sophisticated, yet cosy and welcoming. And best of all, it’s affordable.
