Though Mamelodi Sundowns beat their less-fancied opposition whose name sounds more like a used goods store, Brazilians coach Miguel Cardoso was not completely satisfied with his side’s 2-0 Nedbank Cup victory over Mpheni Home Defenders on Sunday.
Sundowns had raced to a two-goal cushion inside the first half hour with goals from Tashreeq Matthews and Bathusi Aubaas, but after that it was a much more even affair in Pretoria.
That was especially the case after Matthews received his marching orders for his second yellow card three minutes after the break.
Though Sundowns were out to a handy lead early doors, Cardoso was disappointed with the final score.
High expectations
"That’s a very interesting question and it's interesting why because obviously after you score the second goal, the expectation is that you going to finish with a high score," Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the clash.
"That's what I told the lads at halftime that we were supposed to take responsibility of scoring more goals, it was obvious that we could have even done it in the first half.”
Cardoso also made mention of Matthews being sent off affecting the game.
"Anyway, we are in the second half and the fact that Tashreeq Matthews makes a mistake and gets expelled, our blushes were just to manage the game and that’s what we did.
"I tried as much as possible to hold the players outside that were sharp that we didn’t need to put them and put more time on the legs and finish the game, that was the objective," he added.
"But the answer is direct and straight, is that I’m not happy because we should have won by more numbers, but in the end, we did the job, and I have nothing to say."
