The Stormers boosted their scrumhalf stocks by acquiring double World Cup winner Springbok Cobus Reinach, who will join them next season.

With the departure of two experienced nines in Herschel Jantjies and Paul de Wet, the Cape side was hunting for an experienced halfback, and veteran Reinach fits the bill perfectly.

After seven years playing in England and France, the 39-cap Springbok is eager to return home and contribute to a team renowned for its exciting brand of rugby.

Reinach, currently playing for French club Montpellier, has established himself as one of the leading scrumhalves during his time abroad, known for his explosive pace and accurate and speedy delivery.

His extensive experience in European competitions will be invaluable to the Stormers as they continue to develop their playing style and grow as a formidable side in the United Rugby Championship (URC) and European Champions Cup.

Director of Rugby John Dobson expressed his enthusiasm on Tuesday for Reinach’s arrival.

“Cobus has proven himself a threat at the highest level of the game and we are expecting him to fit in seamlessly here.”

“He is a double World Cup winner, and his considerable experience will be vital as we develop the next generation of young talent, with the likes of Imad Khan and Asad Moos set to benefit greatly from working closely with him.”

The Stormers feel their style of play, characterised by attacking flair aligns perfectly with Reinach’s abilities, and it promises an exciting synergy on the field.

“His rugby IQ and knowledge of European conditions will provide plenty of value on and off the pitch.”

Reinach himself is excited about the opportunity, not only being able to return home with his family, but also to join a team playing a great brand of rugby.

“I feel that I have a lot to offer within their game model.”

Having a deep familiarity with many of his new teammates, Reinach is confident that he will integrate well when he links up with the squad.
