BMW has already tantalised its performance coupé fans with the recent revealing of the M4 and M235i , and now it looks like the good times are set to roll on with an M2 in 2016.
After hearing various mutterings from BMW insiders recently, the UK's Auto Express can practically confirm that an M2 is on the way.
Of course, it's not known exactly which parts bin BMW will be raiding to power the hottest 2 Series.
Most publications are speculating that it'll get a more powerful version of the N54 3-litre TwinPower straight-six found in the current M235i. Yet, according to Car and Driver, a detuned, single-turbo version of the new M3 and M4's high-revving N55 six-cylinder monster motor is also a possibility.
So how much power will it make? Outputs of between 268 and 283kW are being bandied about the internet.
One thing's for sure, BMW's answer to the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG is not going to be tame and it's going to need a chassis to match its extra urge.
This is where items like the new Active M Differential, found in the new M3/M4 might come in handy.
We wait with bated breath.
