After a brief fling with the legendary Zagato design house last year resulted in two striking concept cars - a coupe and roadster - BMW has now joined forces with another big name in the world of car design.
The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé concept car, unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, is a luxurious BMW two-door "seen through the eyes of Pininfarina."
While this design will no doubt influence future BMW coupés, it is also widely speculated that this could point the way forward for a resurrection of the 8 Series.
Fittingly, the concept is powered by BMW's 400kW/700Nm 6-litre turbocharged V12 powerhouse.
BMW's design head Karim Habib explained that "The appeal of this collaboration with Pininfarina is that you get another, very different and special angle on facets like luxury and exclusivity."
The finished beauty emphasises BMW's typical design ethos with its long bonnet, stretched wheelbase and set-back greenhouse, while numerous Pininfarina design cues lend it more than a healthy dose of Italian flair.
Pininfarina also infused its flair into the four-seat hand-crafted cabin, with a special colour concept and select materials that include the finest leather and kauri wood aged for more than 48 000 years. It's also garnished with geometrical details in the doors, centre console and dashboard binnacle.
