BMW has confirmed that the reason it plans to spend $900 million (R73 billion) on revamping its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is to get it ready to begin producing the X4 crossover - probably as soon as 2014.
The Blue Propeller guys haven't yet released any details about the new fastback, except that it will be based on the X3 - which is already rolling off the lines at Spartanburg.
Expect it to bear the same relationship, therefore, to the X3 as the X6 does to the X5, at about 4.65m long overall.
When it does reach the market, it'll compete directly with the Porsche Cajun and Range Rover Evoque; expect to see two-litre fours and three-litre sixes in both petrol and diesel.
And if there is going to be an X4M with a 225kW, turbopetrol six - we wanna drive it!
