The KwaZulu-Natal South Coast’s impressive tally of Blue Flag beaches has positioned the region as a premier investment destination, particularly in property development.

The South Coast has seven internationally recognised Blue Flag beaches and five beaches hold pilot status.

“This year has shown positive momentum in property sales, and achieving Blue Flag status for our beaches is a significant drawcard,” said Sam Wenger, Development Director of Serenity Hills, a sustainable lifestyle estate near Margate.

“This globally recognised standard attracts not only local investors but international ones as well, who now see this as a top-class destination.”

South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) noted that beyond its pristine beaches, the South Coast has three Marine Protected Areas, including the renowned dive sites Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks, 11 golf courses, nature reserves with extensive hiking and biking trails, and cultural experiences.

“These attributes make the South Coast a desirable location for families, retirees, and professionals looking for a flexible work-life balance. Affordable real estate investments here are unmatched compared to other coastal destinations," Wenger added.

SCTIE stated that Serenity Hills exemplified the region’s commitment to sustainable development.

Honoured by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the 5th South African Investment Conference for its contribution to national investment, the 120-hectare estate combined eco-conscious living with luxury.

It features ocean-view units, recreational facilities, and a clubhouse, with plans for nature trails and fishing dams.

The estate is part of a broader investment surge, including other developments like Injabulo Lifestyle Estate, Renishaw Hills, and Umdoni Point Coastal Forest Estate.

Collectively, these projects pledged R70.8 billion in investments at the KwaZulu-Natal Investment Conference.

Dr Vusumuzi Sibiya, CEO of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE): “The Blue Flag announcement has undoubtedly boosted attention to the region’s developments. We look forward to welcoming many new investors.”
