American fast-food brands Chipotle and Chick-fil-A are not opening branches in South Africa.

If you’re a lover of fast food and have always been keen to try these popular American brands then unfortunately you might have to go there to try them.

A few days ago Chipotle and Chick-fil-A social media accounts popped up and got many South Africans excited.

The South African Chipotle Instagram page has seven posts advertising their popular meal options.

The first post, however, indicated that they will be opening stores across the country.

The post is captioned: “Guess who just landed. South Africa, we brought the flavour. What are you excited to try on our menu?”

In the bio it even states where and when the stores will be opening. The branches include Canal Walk, Menlyn Park, Mall of Africa and Fourways Mall.

IOL reached out to Chipotle to inquire about the Instagram page.

“That is fake and we’ll take action to remove it,” responded their media spokesperson Erin Wolford.

According to a TikTok account, @chickfila.southafrica, they will be opening branches in October.

The most recent video says they will be opening branches at Gateway Shopping Centre, Mall of Africa, Canal Walk and Menlyn Mall.

In the bio it says Official South African Chick fil-A (very much impersonating), so one has to assume that it is indeed fake.

This was confirmed by Chick-fil-A media spokesperson Kali Caldwell who said: “We have nothing to share around any plans to expand into the South African market at this time.”
