As South Africa revels in the milestone of 30 years of democracy, the spotlight shines brightly on the incredible women who have been at the heart of this journey.
The South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) will host the 6th annual Malibongwe Artist Festival “Tribute To Women” on Sunday at Mark’s Park in Emmerentia from 10am to 6pm.
This year’s festival promises to be a showcase of South Africa’s finest talent with an electrifying line-up that includes Zonke, Ringo Madlingozi, Mafikizolo, Jaziel Brothers, Nomfundo Moh, Kelvin Momo, and Lwah Ndlunkulu.
These musical legends are expected to captivate audiences with their performances, paying heartfelt homage to the women who have made profound contributions to our cultural and social landscapes.
“Our journey with the Malibongwe Art Festival reflects the vibrant spirit of South African women,” said Joe Chakela of Sheer Entertainment, one of the organizers.
“Last year, we celebrated with 8,000 attendees, and this year, we’re anticipating an even larger crowd. This festival is a celebration of our heritage and a testament to the transformative impact of women on our society.”
As we mark three decades of democracy, the festival also pays tribute to the remarkable women who have left indelible marks in various fields.
From Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, a beacon of social justice and education, to Desire Ellis, the CAF Woman Coach of the Year, and Laura Wolvaardt, the record-breaking cricketer, the festival honours their achievements and ongoing legacies.
Other trailblazers include Kgothatso Montjane, who made history at Wimbledon, Mandisa Maya, South Africa’s first female Deputy Chief Justice, and Nomcebo Zikode, the Grammy award-winning musician.
The “Tribute To Women” concert is a celebration of extraordinary women and their enduring impact. Attendees can experience a vibrant blend of music, art, and culture, interwoven with inspiring stories of triumph and perseverance.
The festival features live performances, engaging art and lifestyle activations, and a chance to connect with the legacy of these remarkable women.
