Netizens have expressed their lack of enthusiasm for Mzansi Magic's new dating show, 'The Catch,' following the release of its trailer on X.

Hosted by Kat Sinivasan, the show's debut during the 'month of love' seems to reinforce its romantic theme, yet this timing has only dampened viewers' excitement.

There are eight single women on a mission to find a suitor and the intriguing twist is that eight impostors are posing as eligible bachelors. These impostors are ready to break hearts and steal the prize money.

However, the trailer didn't get people hyped as viewers are tired of dating shows, which makes one wonder if we really need another one.

The fatigue is real, as dating shows continue to dominate the airwaves while social media feeds overflow with relationship discussions. It's difficult not to feel trapped in a never-ending cycle of love and heartbreak.

But it's not just TV shows. Even local content on streaming platforms is recycling the same dating and relationship ideas. These shows gain popularity, but are essentially variations of the same theme.

It's almost like the entertainment industry is stuck in a pattern, relying on the same tired formulas instead of pushing the boundaries of storytelling.

The constant bombardment of dating content has become exhausting and repetitive. There should be more shows that explore complex social issues, or celebrate platonic relationships, or delve into the human experience beyond romance.

People have grown tired of the same old dating show formula, they seek something different. Perhaps something uplifting or something that does not center around dating.

X user @Mncedisi_Dube prefers to see more uplifting content such as a show that provides employment for unemployed youth.

He commented: “Can we come up with shows where we actually find work for new graduates ?? Umm what about that?”

While @Thibos_G commented: “Always dating shows, nothing uplifting the youth.” and @uHlengz added: “So our producers ran out of ideas? How many dating shows are there now?”

“The Catch” premieres Sunday, February 16 at 21.00pm on Mzansi Magic.
