Like the name of the season’s theme, Smash Afrika is supposed to be bringing “Umlilo” (the heat) but some fans are just not feeling it. He's got big shoes to fill, with Lawrence Maleka having nailed it for three seasons.
Afrika Mdutyulwa, professionally known as Smash Afrika, was revealed as the new host of Big Brother Mzansi's fifth season late last year. As the host of one of the most controversial shows on Mzansi screens, he leads viewers through the show's dramatic moments, including challenges and eliminations.
While some fans admire his bold fashion choices and charisma, others find his hosting abilities lacking.
The Sunday eviction nights are always highly anticipated since that’s when he gets to ask questions that stir things up in the house, questions that reveal conversations that were had in private among other housemates. But Smash Afrika's questioning style is being criticised for being too safe and boring.
The viewers are craving more drama and tension, and Smash Afrika's failure to deliver has left some feeling disappointed. They are unhappy with his “irrelevant questions” and feel he is not livening the show.

As the season continues to heat up, Smash Afrika will need to give the viewers what they want and that’s messy drama, that’s what keeps fans engaged. He needs to deliver more than just stylish outfits; he should ask questions that get at the juicy, dramatic stuff that the audience loves.
Despite some constructive criticisms, people seem to like Smash Afrika's new energy on the show. His unique style keeps things interesting for some, fans especially love his fashion and how he brings something new to the table.
X user @LawryKamzila loves his fashion sense, while @LoyalDwarf says Smash Afrika is the greatest host.
