Durban — A woman’s body which was discovered in a Canelands farm on Tuesday, has been identified by police, as 20-year-old Inam Tshakeni, a trainee pilot, who was reported missing to Sydenham police over the weekend.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson, Prem Balram, told the Daily News that a farmer who owns the land reported noticing human legs from a bush while patrolling his farm. Their reaction team found the body of a woman lying on a dirt road.

KZN police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said: “Police in Verulam are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a body of a woman was allegedly found in what looked like assault injuries on her body. Her body was allegedly found at Canelands on July, 16.” Ngcobo said.

Rusa further revealed that on Wednesday a woman approached their reaction unit and identified herself as a family member of a 20-year-old who was recently reported missing.

“The woman informed Reaction Officers that she had viewed a post on the Rusa Facebook page and was certain that the body recovered was a family member. The brightly coloured pink hair was described on the post as reported by the attending reaction officers,” said Rusa.

He added that the missing female was from the Eastern Cape and had relocated to the eThekwini Region to complete her pilot training at Virginia Airfield in Durban North. Tshakeni was reported missing at Sydenham police station on Sunday after going missing Saturday morning.

The family of the deceased and friends who had shared their contact details reporting the missing Tshakeni did not comment.
