Man, 35, bust for alleged possession of diamonds, gold, drugs set to appear in court

Cape Town – A 35-year-old man is expected in the Clanwilliam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after he was allegedly found in possession of diamonds, gold and drugs.

He was stopped while travelling along the N7.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said members of the Rural Flying Squad arrested the man for the alleged possession of uncut diamonds, unrefined gold and drugs in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“The members received information about a white Toyota Quantum that is travelling on the N7 between Clanwilliam and Citrusdal with a passenger (on board) who was in possession of the diamonds, gold and drugs.

“The vehicle was stopped and the passengers, luggage and vehicle were searched when the discovery was made in the luggage of one passenger,” Twigg said.

Seven bags containing dagga, 50 Mandrax tablets, 9,4g crystal meth, 4,2g unrefined gold and 35 pieces of uncut diamonds were confiscated.

“The suspect will appear in the Clanwilliam Magistrate’s court on Thursday on the aforementioned charges,” Twigg said.

Meanwhile, police said endeavours to rid the Western Cape of firearms in the hands of criminals saw the arrest of a 33-year-old man for the alleged possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Blikkiesdorp, Delft, on Tuesday afternoon.

“The members searched a premises after they received information about firearms (there). Two pistols were confiscated during the search,” Twigg said.

The suspect is due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
