Cape Town - Fondly known as the Champs for Kids, volunteer members of the Tygerberg Hospital Children’s Trust have once again dedicated their time and efforts to cheering on learners at Tygerberg Hospital School.

Just in time for Christmas this year, designated Champs teams sourced and collected bagfuls of Christmas presents and toys for learners at Tygerberg Hospital School, who are patients at the paediatric units of the hospital, delivering them at a fun-filled event.

Tygerberg Hospital Children’s Trust spokesperson, Candace Jansen said: “Learners at Tygerberg Hospital School were treated to an early Santa surprise, spearheaded by the Champs. One only needs to look at the pictures to see the absolute joy, delight and excitement the gifts brought to their little faces and hearts.

“Every donation and sponsorship played a role in making this December special for these little ones.

“From the Grootbos Foundation – who donated the Proteas T-shirts the little ones wore – to the hand-knitted teddy bears that were donated by the Cape Town Catholic Women’s League.”

Tygerberg Hospital Children's Trust CEO Jason Falken said: “Donations are a critical enabler of the work Tygerberg Hospital Children’s Trust does.

“Without the kindness and generosity of our supporters, we are unable to positively impact Tygerberg Hospital's children, many of whom remain at the hospital during the festive season.

“The festive season gives our communities of supporters a chance to open their giving hearts and spread joy to our kids, many of whom have never received a Christmas gift before.

“This on its own is an immensely powerful experience for not only our kids but also the givers and us at the Tygerberg Hospital Children's Trust.”

The West Coast Cluster of Rotary E-Clubs brought in a container load of “Wheelchairs for Change”.

The president of the Table Bay Rotary Club, Wilbur van Niekerk said: “We were asked to help distribute wheelchairs to children and adults in need; we reached out to the Tygerberg Hospital Children’s Trust, and they responded immediately to our offer.

“We are delighted to be able to make a difference in the lives of children and young adults in a meaningful way.”
