UNDISPUTED MMA continues to play its part in growing grassroots MMA in the Western Cape and across South Africa.
The promotion successfully rolled out its second event since its inception last year. Although the card featured fewer than 10 fights, the action between each bell more than made up for it, providing great entertainment for fans who turned up in droves to fill the Oaklands High School Hall in Lansdowne last night.
Only three of the nine fights went to a decision; the rest ended via submission, TKO, or KO. Make no mistake, though: even the decision bouts, which many casual fans deem “boring”, offered high entertainment value. In each instance, both corners refused to give an inch, as fighters proudly represented their gyms and wore their hearts on their sleeves every time they stepped into the cage.
In the main event, TroubleMakers’ Juan Conradie got sweet revenge over his rival Reuben Job (Fighterz Inc), securing the Undisputed MMA Flyweight Championship. This came after Conradie had conceded defeat to Job at Barebones MC last year, where Job claimed the 125-pound title.
Speaking to Job after his latest win at Barebones MC — where he was crowned BMF title holder — he made it clear that he planned to turn professional soon. When news of his rematch with Conradie emerged, it was difficult to understand why he would risk taking the fight again. Job arguably had more to lose, especially with Conradie motivated to redeem himself. Many fighters would avoid a rematch so close to a professional transition, given the potential impact on their record.
Credit must, however, be given to Job. He was more than willing to grant Conradie a second opportunity, while also recognising that further accolades in the amateur ranks would strengthen his case as a standout prospect for major promotions on the African continent — such as EFC, PFL Africa, AKO, and Versus. Adding another title to his résumé alongside his BMC Flyweight and BMF belts would only enhance his already high profile.
However, the night ultimately belonged to Conradie. He showed greater intent and dominance across the five-round title fight, displaying more effective grappling, superior cage control, and a higher work rate during exchanges and transitions. His smart, creative striking further swayed the judges in his favour.
At one stage, Job appeared to switch off, based on his body language. Conradie capitalised and ultimately secured a unanimous decision victory, sending the crowd into a frenzy as TroubleMakers supporters erupted in rapturous applause for their athlete.
Another highlight of the evening was the matchup between Go For Broke’s Kuhle Miso and Ubdaillah Abrahams (Fighterz Inc). Miso continues to showcase immense heart and skill inside the cage. Often the smaller athlete with a thin frame, he more than compensates with his relentless spirit, skill, resilience, and exciting fighting style.
Last night proved that Miso can grapple with the best. He and Abrahams went toe-to-toe over five rounds, displaying high-level wrestling and striking in a contest that purists would have thoroughly appreciated. The level of transitions and grit on display approached professional calibre.
In a back-and-forth bout, Miso edged out a split-decision victory. His grappling resulted in more damage and effective striking, while Abrahams executed impressive and entertaining takedowns but lacked the follow-up needed to secure the win.
After falling short in his bid for the BMC BMF title last month, Miso bounced back in emphatic fashion, claiming the UMC BMF (56kg) title for his family and the Go For Broke gym. The team had an outstanding night overall, securing four victories — including a scintillating TKO win from Kuhle’s brother, Buhle.
