Travel influencer Tara Woodcox is allegedly facing a $1 million (approximately R15 million) lawsuit after sharing a travel “hack” that includes washing one’s dirty underwear in a coffee machine.

Woodcox’s video, which was posted late 2025, recently went viral across all social media platforms, after people were appalled at how unhygienic and shocking this “hack” was.

In the video, Woodcox shared a step-by-step guide on how to wash your underwear using the coffeemaker’s ground compartment, then drying it using a bathroom hair dryer.

She added that it was a tip from a friend who is a flight attendant, and this trick is specifically for people who do not have enough underwear while travelling.

However, after the video caused widespread outrage, Woodcox retracted her statement in the comment section by saying that she agrees that it is unhygienic and does not do it herself.

Influencer faces alleged lawsuit

According to multiple online reports and videos, Woodcox is now facing a $1 million lawsuit for damages/reputational harm from the hotel she was allegedly visiting at the time of making that video.

There have also been claims that the hotel was forced to issue refunds to guests and also replace all the coffee makers in the hotel due to the lack of trust that guests now had.

While the rumours of the lawsuit have been making the rounds, there have not been any public court records or official statements that confirm the lawsuit allegations.

The travel influencer even took it upon herself to share on Instagram that she is not being sued, and the video that claims she is facing a lawsuit is an AI video.

She shared a conversation with a concerned follower who texted her, saying that she must confirm that she is not getting sued and all this is just for “jokes”.

“No, there's no lawsuit. That was an AI video,” she replied.

In addition, Woodcox is unbothered by the backlash and instead is “making the best” out of this situation because she shared that since the video went viral, she is getting a lot of interview requests with major news outlets.

She asked her followers to help her with choosing the “best” news outlet to do an interview with, since she is overwhelmed with the requests.

Social media users are still not impressed with how she is handling the situation because not only is the trust between hotels and visitors broken, but her tone-deaf response is leaving many appalled.

“The way you keep coming back here and laughing in our faces about something that is disgusting and not funny is really terrible. I hope there is a lawsuit, and I hope they sue you for everything you have,” @kaylarosecan commented.

“Using something that is inappropriate for views and profit really tells you everything you need to know about someone,” @_sindysugar_ shared.

While @lauramarie79812 added: “I am so confused with how you’re acting.”
