Solo travel isn’t for the faint-hearted.
It comes with its fair share of challenges - from fear of the unknown and safety concerns to moments of loneliness and boredom.
These feelings often arise from navigating unfamiliar environments, being away from familiar support systems, and carrying the full responsibility of planning and executing a trip alone.
Still, despite these hurdles, travelling solo can be an incredibly empowering and transformative experience.
Acknowledging both the beauty and complexity of solo adventures, TV host and actress Pearl Modiadie recently opened up about her own journey.
Taking to Instagram, Modiadie shared her solo travel experience in Zanzibar, Tanzania, where she escaped the cold winter of Mzansi for sunny beaches and serene moments by the ocean.
This wasn’t Modiadie’s first time in Zanzibar - she had previously visited with her son, Lewatle - but this time was different.
She chose to make the trip alone.
“Solo travel - I hadn’t done it in a long time, and I honestly wasn’t sure if I still had it in me. But I do. I actually do. 🤍🌿 And it’s exactly what I needed,” she wrote.
“If I could tell you just one thing (in reference to the book I’m reading)… take the trip. Give yourself space to breathe, to feel, to come back to you. This was day one in Zanzibar. I keep coming back 🥹🇹🇿.”
In the photos she shared, Moodiadie is seen soaking in the peaceful surroundings, dressed in a breezy khaki linen sundress, relaxing by the water with a book in hand.
She also treated herself to sweet delights and tropical cocktails, fully embracing the solo getaway experience.
Solo travel offers a unique chance for self-discovery, personal growth, and independence.
It encourages stepping out of your comfort zone, boosting confidence, and sharpening problem-solving skills - all while enjoying the freedom to explore on your own terms.
Zanzibar stands out as a top destination for solo travellers.
Known for its safety, affordability, and vibrant mix of attractions, it’s a place where you can unwind on picturesque beaches, immerse yourself in rich cultural history, and connect with warm, welcoming locals and fellow travellers.
For Modiadie, the trip wasn’t just a vacation - it was a meaningful journey back to herself.
And for anyone considering taking that leap, her message is clear: take the trip.
