The bail application of two brothers accused of killing Mount Edgecombe businessman Shailen Singh is expected to get underway in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this morning.
The courtroom was packed with supporters of Ferrel Govender, 40, the group chief executive officer of Pro Secure, a security company, and his brother, Darren Govender, 35, the owner of a construction company.
While their bid for bail was meant to commence on Monday, the matter was rolled over for the KZN Director of Public Prosecution to provide confirmation of what schedule the offence would be.
Singh, 32, who owned Shails Trans, a logistics company, was shot multiple times while seated in his vehicle in a restaurant's parking lot in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga, on December 29.
The father of one was shot in the head, neck and abdomen. He died at the scene.
The brothers, who handed themselves over to police on January 1, were charged with murder the following day.
According to police, two vehicles, a Black BMW X5 and black Ford Ranger, which were seen leaving the scene, were seized.
Outside the court, supporters of the brother were out in their numbers with placards for a second consecutive day, while the family and friends of Singh, with their own placards, called for bail to be denied.
