Naked body, tied down with stones and parts removed, found in river prompts murder investigation

The body of a young woman, believed to be between the ages of 19 and 21, was found in the Muledane River near Mvudi Park, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said police responded to a complaint at around 3.30pm on September 20, and found the body of an unknown woman floating in the water. 

“The deceased, believed to be between the ages of 19 and 21, was found naked, with her hands and legs fastened,” Mashaba said. 

A 5kg mealie bag filled with stones was tied to her legs. Further visible injuries included the removal of some body parts along with cuts on both feet.”

IOL reported that the police were calling for public assistance after the gruesome murder over the weekend in the Vhembe District. 

The unidentified body has since been taken into possession by the forensic pathology services for a post-mortem examination that will determine the exact cause of death. 

The Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed her outrage at the brutal killing and instructed the investigating team to work tirelessly to track and trace those responsible for this brutal crime.
