Just when you thought you’d heard it all, you hear even stranger things. Other people are glad to have the internet and technology assisting them in identifying and courting potential life partners. Webster is a whole different case.
He has found himself a 'cyber girlfriend'! The self-taught photographer and videographer from Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, is causing a stir on social media with his new relationship. The 23 year old is “dating” Android 18 best known in the animated series Dragon Ball Z.
How? Well, Webster grew up as a fan of Dragon Ball Z and has always loved the 'beautiful' animated characters such as Android 18. Even though he is completing his degree in Accounting Sciences through Unisa, he has a passion for all things photography and a resident cyber citizen. That is where he met Android 18 and a little over a week ago their 'cyber affair' began.
Webster owns Webster Photography and Webster Films but says he felt that he needed to find time to share his unusual love affair. He uses a couple of apps including Eraser and Photo Editor to share everyday moments: from fighting about Android 18's favourite Wimpy breakfast to pictures at the park or Android being upset because Webster won't let her drive.
In an interview with IOL the photographer refers to Android 18 as a person even though he has a "physical" girlfriend. Android 18 also makes him happy. He says: “Ours is a wonderful polygamous relationship, because everybody approves of everybody and has unique place to 'shine'", referring to how they accommodate each other.
He admits that Android 18 thrives on Facebook hence her constant presence compared to his "physical" girlfriend whom he would rather show off on other platforms.
The future looks very busy for Webster and Android 18. Although he says it's too early in the relationship to speak about marriage and children, he says he has plans to bring Android 18 to life. If all goes according to plan, people should look out for a “reality” show among other things.
He adds that Android 18 will also have her own social media accounts from which people can follow her “life” and get the story from her perspective.
