As part of its exuberant Tourism Month calendar, Joburg Tourism has again collaborated with the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Music Festival, which ends today at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Joburg Tourism used the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz to partner with SMMEs for the first time, launching the Jazzy Joburg Market at Nelson Mandela Square.

This is where the market has been coming together with jazz to give visitors a great welcome to Joburg - reinforcing Joburg Tourism’s #Welcome2Jozi campaign, which aims to emphasise the city’s positioning: that it is more than a stopover destination and that there’s more to Joburg than business.

The market has been open daily, and today will be open from 10am until 5pm at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton.

The Jazzy Joburg Night Market has been the daily build-up to the main Joy of Jazz Festival taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre - with food stalls, arts and crafts exhibitors and all the trimmings to be expected from a night market in a creative space.

It has been an outstanding opportunity for developing artists to share their music and talents at a fun-filled night market.

This has been a special initiative, launched this week by Joburg Tourism as part of the City’s Department of Economic Development plans.

“The SMME developmental and partnership aspect of our work is very important to our ambitious economic growth targets of 5% for Johannesburg,” said councillor Leah Knott, who is MMC for economic development.

“The night market has been a strategic move to give SMME’s that specialise in food services, arts, crafts and design, access to a new marketplace in order to grow their businesses.”
