The January transfer window has injected fresh energy into the Premiership, with clubs across the division moving decisively to reinforce their squads as they position themselves for a strong finish to the season.

With battles intensifying at both ends of the table, the race for survival and the title is set to deliver plenty of twists and turns. Some clubs have been busier than others, but every move made at this stage could prove decisive as the campaign edges closer to its conclusion.

Stellenbosch FC have emerged as one of the most active sides during the window, with their new recruits already making their presence felt. The Cape Winelands outfit have shown clear signs that their latest signings could play a crucial role in rescuing what has been an inconsistent season.

Meanwhile, title favourites Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have left nothing to chance, strengthening their squads as their fierce rivalry appears set to go down to the wire. With a direct clash between the two still to come, both sides have ensured they are well equipped for what promises to be an intense run-in.

The Brazilians have secured high-quality additions, including Khulumane Ndamane and Monnapule Saleng among several new arrivals, while Pirates have also bolstered their ranks. Here, we take a closer look at some of the most impactful signings made in the past two weeks and how they could shape the remainder of the season.

Mpho Chabatsane

The former Marumo Gallants defender is expected to help his new club address the void left by Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who departed for Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire after establishing himself as a key figure at Pirates.

While it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will immediately break into the starting line-up given the competition in his position, Chabatsane offers valuable depth. His arrival strengthens the squad not only for the current campaign but also with an eye on a potential return to Caf Champions League football next season.

Daniel Msendami

Already boasting one of the most talented midfields in the PSL, Pirates have added further quality with the arrival of Daniel Msendami, who reunites with former coach Abdeslam Ouaddou at the Buccaneers.

Renowned for his work rate and versatility, Msendami is capable of operating across multiple attacking roles. His energy and adaptability make him a natural fit for a Pirates side seeking immediate impact and consistency during a demanding phase of the season.

Kgaogelo Sekgota

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder wasted little time settling in at Siwelele FC, marking his debut with a goal in their 1–1 draw against Richards Bay FC last Friday.

Having enjoyed a well-travelled career that includes the pressures of playing for the Soweto giants, the 29-year-old brings valuable experience to Lehlohonolo Seema’s side. Sekgota’s arrival could prove vital as Siwelele continue their fight to steer clear of the relegation zone.

Tshegofatso Mabasa

The Orlando Pirates striker, currently on loan, announced himself in style with a goal on debut after struggling for regular game time following Ouaddou’s arrival at the Buccaneers.

Stellenbosch have battled for goals this season, and Mabasa’s proven scoring pedigree — including his continental experience and status as Pirates’ second-highest scorer — makes him a significant acquisition. With his contract future at stake, both player and Stellies stand to gain from what could be a decisive partnership.

Mosa Lebusa

Once a regular under Miguel Cardoso during the early stages of his tenure, Lebusa later fell out of favour under the Portuguese coach. Now under the guidance of experienced mentor Gavin Hunt, the defender represents an ideal addition.

Lebusa’s calm presence and wealth of experience arrive at a critical stage of the season, providing leadership and stability as Stellenbosch push for a strong finish.
