Midfielder Devin Titus has proudly etched his name in the annals of Stellenbosch Football Club history by becoming the youngest player to reach 150 appearances for the Winelands club. His milestone came this week as he lined up in the starting XI for the Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC, marking a significant achievement within the club’s rich legacy.
This remarkable achievement highlights his dedication and perseverance. The 24-year-old Titus has cemented his place in Stellenbosch’s exclusive 150-appearance club, joining notable former and current teammates Deano van Rooyen and Sage Stephens.
His professional debut came under coach Steve Barker in January 2021 during a league match against Black Leopards. Since then, Titus has made an impressive impact, participating in 98.6% of all possible matches for Stellenbosch FC this season alone.
His consistent performances have helped the club secure the 2023 Carling Knockout trophy, where he was named Most Valuable Player, reach two consecutive MTN8 finals, and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
In recognition of his hard work and excellence, Titus has also been awarded Stellenbosch FC’s internal Young Player of the Year award in the 2022–23 season, Players’ Player of the Year in the 2023–24 season, and Top Goalscorer for the 2024–25 season.
Ahead of the upcoming season, he was promoted to the club’s leadership group, recently showcasing his captaincy skills during a memorable quarter-final victory over Kaizer Chiefs.
“I always strive to be a leader on and off the field and to be a role model, so being part of the leadership group is very special to me,” Titus shared. “Captaining Stellenbosch FC, my boyhood club, is something I have always dreamed about. It was a dream come true for me, and I’m incredibly grateful for that honour.”
Devin Titus has contributed significantly to his team, scoring 48 goals and recording 15 assists across all competitions since his debut.
With 150 matches behind him, he is now just 11 appearances short of breaking Deano van Rooyen’s record, a prospect that he acknowledges with mixed emotions.
“Deano was a role model for me and always gave me advice. Surpassing his appearance record will be bittersweet, but I want to make history at Stellenbosch FC,” he concluded.
