SESHEGO STADIUM - Unlike the dark clouds that hovered above this big township just outside Polokwane heavily pregnant with rain but never delivered any drops, this match came good on its early promise of goals as the home team came from behind to snatch the three precious points.
John Mokone and Thabang Sibanyoni scored for Magesi after Seluleko Mahlambi had put Galaxy 1-0 up as the home side registered a victory that now takes them up to 13th place on nine points after ten matches.
Goal-mouth action was galore in the first half but neither Tape Ira nor Elvis Chipezeze had to scoop the ball from inside their net as Magesi and Galaxy fashioned impressive attacking moves which petered out into nothing.
Before the break there were no less than five forays into the goal area by both sides with none of those bearing fruit, Magesi having the lions’ share of those.
As early as the 12th minute, Kgomotso Mosadi smashed the ball over from inside the box on the right having done well to combine with a teammate and fashion up the half chance.
Four minutes thereafter he was involved in yet another opportunity as he and the livewire Abbey Seseane broke the Galaxy defence with the latter rounding off Ira but fluffing the chance. The loose ball fell for Mosadi who shot wide.
You knew it just was not Mosadi’s evening when he shot straight at Ira from the edge of the box on 26 minutes. His attack partner Seseane had the last attempt of the half on the stroke of half time with a good shot from range but he hardly troubled Ira who made a routine catch.
Sandwiched in between all those close calls were a few promising counter attacks by Galaxy, the most notable of them seeing Dithejane using his ball trickery to get his team into the box but the final attempt got cleared.
Things turned around for the better after the break as Galaxy opened the scoring from a well taken free kick by Dithejane which Seluleko Mahlaboi headed in to the delight of the visiting brass band that played all match long.
But parity was soon restored as Mokone slotted home following a goalmouth scramble that saw the ball moving from one end of the posts to the other.
It appeared a stalemate would be the result as the sides continued attacking each other at pace without really threatening much when Magesi pounced on the counter.
Galaxy got a free kick from almost the same spot where they’d scored but Magesi were good to clear this time around and a punt up-field found substitute Edmore Chirambadare who did well to get into the danger area on the left.
He sent in a low cross which Sibanyoni who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range to give Magesi only their second league victory of the season.
