South African football icon Benni McCarthy could soon be leaving his post with the Kenya national team for Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Bafana Bafana’s record goalscorer was appointed by Kenya earlier this year, and during that time, he has been praised for instilling higher levels of professionalism and accountability among players, and for setting a new bar for the team.
His efforts have already attracted attention from across East Africa, with Simba SC sounding him out after parting ways with Fadlu Davids, who left for Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic.
Reports suggest Simba SC have approached McCarthy, while back home, Kaizer Chiefs, who recently fired Nasreddine Nabi, could also tempt him with the chance to lead one of South Africa’s biggest clubs. If he is open to the idea of returning to club management, then Chiefs could throw their name in the hat for a possible return home.
McCarthy has long expressed a desire to lead one of South Africa’s giants, and the chance to take charge of the biggest club in the country. After retiring from a storied playing career, McCarthy gained coaching experience at Cape Town City and AmaZulu, later joining Manchester United as a first-team strikers’ coach.
At AmaZulu, he helped guide the club to its first-ever CAF Champions League qualification, while his time at Manchester United added Premier League coaching experience to his résumé.
Wherever McCarthy’s career takes him, his reputation as both a motivator and a tactician ensures he will remain one of the most sought-after coaches on the continent.
Whether it’s a high-profile return to South Africa, a new adventure with Simba SC, or continuing his national team journey, his future in the game promises to be every bit as compelling as his playing days.
