Wydad Casablanca have reportedly identified former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane as their next head coach, as the club struggle under Moroccan Mohamed Amine Benhachem.
Benhachem took charge before the start of the current campaign, replacing Rulani Mokwena, who was dismissed after a string of poor domestic results.
According to KickOff, the club have drawn up a list of possible successors to Benhachem, and Mosimane’s name features at the top.
Mosimane, who has been without a job since leaving Iranian club Esteghlal in January, is one of the most decorated coaches in African football and has won three CAF Champions League titles.
However, Another club likely to pursue Mosimane are Kaizer Chiefs, who are on the hunt for a new coach since firing Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi last week.
The 61-year-old Mosimane was previously linked with Chiefs before they appointed Nabi, has revealed in the past that he grew up supporting the Soweto giants.
“I grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs by the way. People don't know that,” Mosimane revealed way back in 2020, when he was still in charge of Sundowns.
With both Wydad Casablanca and Kaizer Chiefs weighing up their options, Mosimane once again finds himself at the centre of a tug-of-war between two of Africa’s most storied clubs. His reputation as a serial winner, combined with his proven ability to deliver success under pressure, makes him a prized candidate for any side aiming to restore its dominance.
For Wydad, the appeal lies in his track record in North Africa and his tactical nous on the continental stage, while Chiefs would see him as the perfect figure to finally return the club to its former glory.
For Kaizer Chiefs, turning to Mosimane would be more than just a coaching appointment — it would be a statement of intent. A return to the club he supported as a boy could give him the chance to revive Amakhosi’s fading dominance, while offering the Soweto giants the leadership and pedigree they’ve been searching for.
