Mamelodi Sundowns will reportedly add significant firepower to their already star-studded squad as they approach the closing hours of the PSL transfer window.
Known for their considerable spending power, the reigning Premiership champions are poised to welcome two talented Portuguese midfielders, strengthening their roster just in time for the ongoing season. Sundowns’ media department would not confirm the reports, some of which originated in Portugal.
The Pretoria-based club has finalised the signing of 26-year-old Nuno Santos from Vitória Guimarães SC on a two-year deal. Reports suggest Santos has already departed for South Africa after Sundowns agreed to pay a fee of €1 million (about R20.4m). The move underlines Sundowns’ commitment to maintaining their elite status in South African football.
The excitement does not end there, with Miguel Reisinho also expected to arrive as Sundowns close in on another acquisition. The 26-year-old midfielder, previously with Boavista FC, joins as a free agent.
Reisinho’s potential addition is regarded as both a savvy business move and a means to enhance creativity and depth.
He has made 77 appearances in the Portuguese top flight, contributing eight goals and four assists during his six years at Boavista. Reports from Portugal indicate Reisinho has already touched down in South Africa and is in the final stages of negotiations.
Although yet to feature for Portugal’s senior side, he has represented the Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 national teams, providing him with a solid foundation. Comfortable in both central and attacking midfield roles, he is expected to add valuable versatility.
Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is set to welcome his fellow countrymen, expressing confidence that the pending arrivals will strengthen the team.
“The market is still open, and we believe the team will be strengthened,” he said over the weekend. “We, along with the coaches, the sporting director and the club’s board, are seriously looking to reinforce the team.”
With their first match against Lamontville Golden Arrows in Durban this week, Sundowns are eager to integrate their new signings swiftly. They will then host Richards Bay in a highly anticipated encounter, with fans hopeful the new arrivals can propel the team further towards retaining their PSL title.
