On a night they would probably prefer to forget in the Betway Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs crashed to a 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
It was their first defeat in the league this season and Chiefs were on the back foot from the start, when Bradley Grobler grabbed the lead for the side after just five minutes.
Chiefs hit back quickly though, as Flavio Silva levelled the scores eight minutes later.
There would be no further change in score as the sides headed to the break locked at 1-1.
However, like in the first half, Grobler took just five minutes to find the back of the net again. It was then the turn of Thabang Monare to make the score line emphatic for Sekhukhune.
Though the scoreline was heavily in favour of the visitors, Chiefs were by far the dominant side.
Chiefs had 16 shots in total to just six of Sekhukhune. Chiefs also had the lion’s share of possession with 64% of the ball. As a result, Chiefs completed 507 passes to the 300 of their opponents.
The win sees Sekhukhune regain their lead at the top of the table with 16 points from six matches, after five wins and a draw.
They are ahead of champions Mamelodi Sundowns who are on 14 points.
Meanwhile, Chiefs are rooted to third with 13 points following four wins, a draw, and now a loss.
Chiefs are next in action on Saturday when they take on Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation preliminary round in a first leg clash in Talatona, Angola.
