Newly promoted Orbit College have been at the centre of a swirling debate following critical comments from head coach Pogiso Makhoye about on-loan player Monnapule Saleng.

Last week, Makhoye questioned Saleng’s contribution to the team during an interview with Metro FM’s Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified, saying other players performed better when Saleng was not on the pitch.

“So far, I don’t think he’s giving us what we expected from him as a big-name player,” Makhoye told Ncube.

“These are the things we need to sit down and assess as a team. Is he really influencing our performances? Do we look better with him in the side, or are we stronger without him?”

Following the interview, reports emerged suggesting that Orbit College had issued an official statement addressing Makhoye’s comments.

What appeared to be the club’s apology and support for Saleng was widely reported, including remarks that he is “a valued member of our team” and assurances that discussions with the player were underway to resolve the matter internally.

However, the club’s general manager, Kganakga Matome, has since clarified that no such statement was issued. “There is no statement issued by the club,” Matome said, denying the earlier reports, according to FARPost.

The incident has sparked debate among fans, highlighting the importance of clear and careful communication from coaching staff as Orbit College continue their Betway Premiership campaign.
