He’s rapidly becoming one of the most talked-about players at Kaizer Chiefs, but whether Wandile Duba is taking all the attention in his stride is unclear.
At just 21, Duba has become a divisive figure for his aggressive play on the pitch along with the passion he displays for his club in the Betway Premiership.
In interviews, he is similarly confident, often laying down the gauntlet for his opposition.
This week, Duba posted a message on social media that takes some interpreting.
The post included the words departure along with love and peace emojis.
There was even speculation that the message meant he could be moving away from Chiefs, but that’s reading plenty into the player’s comments.
However, this comes after Duba admitted that he had death threats from fans.
The midfielder said he was fine with criticism of his play, but intimated there had to be a line when fans threaten his safety.
“No, no, no. It's part of the job. You do well, they talk. You do bad, they talk. I just keep on focusing on what I do best and I don't mind all the negative comments,” told Soccer Laduma.
“Does it affect you when people say you play aggressively? No, it doesn't actually. It doesn't because that's how the coach wants us to be.”
“It's just the comments, people coming to your account, commenting threatening to kill you and all that. I don't think on the last game I wasn't in my right state of mind. So, I didn't even go to play.”
