Though former coach José Riveiro left on good terms with Orlando Pirates and its fans, the plot has thickened after he was given the boot by Al Ahly.

Since leaving Pirates, Riveiro managed just one win from seven games with the Egyptian giants.

On Saturday, Al Ahly lost 2-0 to Pyramids FC and therefore Al Ahly did not waste any time ahead of the international break before wielding the axe.

Riveiro was in charge for just three months at the club.

Speaking on SuperSport TV’s Soccer Africa, football analyst Mamadou Gaye did not hold back when talking about Riveiro.

Riveiro’s Departure Sparks Criticism Over Greed and Self-Interest

“Pirates were on the verge of reaching the final of the Champions League, and he (Riveiro) came out to say that he is going to Al Ahly because he wants to go to the FIFA Club World Cup, he wants more money. He is thinking of his own glory, now it is time to pay the price,” said Gaye.

“I hope that no club will allow him to come back to South Africa, let him go hunt for a job in Europe. These are the types of coaches we don’t need. It is about themselves, they are all greedy.”

It’s not just pundits that are laying into Riveiro, former Pirates striker James Mothibi, former Pirates striker, told Kick Off: "You know, if, for whatever reason, you decide to leave, and then suddenly resurface elsewhere, like coach José did... Remember that when he resigned, it wasn't announced that he was going to Al Ahly. We were told his family needed him at home.”
