South African sports fans can look forward to an exciting weekend with the MTN8 semi-final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, the Springboks’ Rugby Championship title defence against the Wallabies, and Dricus du Plessis’s UFC middleweight title fight against Khamzat Chimaev. It will be difficult to move away from the couch this weekend if you’re a South African sports fan, as there is an embarrassment of riches over the different sports.

The Springboks, Dricus Du Plessis and MTN8 action will be high on the agenda. The best part is that most of the drama will not overlap with the rugby, UFC and soccer, well-spaced out.

First up, it could be an epic clash in the MTN8 semi-final first leg between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium.

Both sides have had a less than perfect start to the new season, with Pirates in particular coming off two Betway Premiership defeats in a row.  The match kicks off at 3pm.

Springboks vs. Wallabies: Rugby Championship Title Defence at Ellis Park

Just as the Sundowns-Pirates game draws to a close, it will be time to switch over to the rugby.

The Springboks will begin their Rugby Championship title defence against Australia at their Ellis Park fortress, with kick-off at 5.10pm.

The Boks will be overwhelming favourites to beat the Wallabies, who have not won at the stadium in the heart of Johannesburg since 1963.

Don’t Miss Dricus du Plessis Defend His UFC Title Against Khamzat Chimaev Early on Sunday Morning

It will then be early to bed for fight fans, hoping to see Dricus du Plessis hopefully defend his UFC middleweight title against Khamzat Chimaev on Sunday morning.

The event starts at 4am SA time, with Du Plessis expected to start his fight at any time between 5.30am and 6.30am. To be safe and avoid missing any of Du Plessis’s fight, it’s best to be safely ensconced in front of the TV by no later than 5am. This is one SA fight fans will not want to miss.
