Springbok double Rugby World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi joined Liverpool’s celebrations at Anfield after the Merseyside club sealed their record-equalling 20th English Premier League title on Sunday.
Liverpool needed only one point from the home game against Tottenham Hotspur but instead completed the job in fine style with a 5-1 drubbing of their North London rivals to set off manic scenes.
With the championship sealed with four League matches still remaining, Liverpool supporters inside Anfield and thousands more outside, which included Kolisi, celebrated the championship success with gusto.
Kolisi, wearing a former Red captain Steven Gerrard’s iconic 2005 Istanbul Champions League-winning shirt, was seen hoisting a red flare in celebration.
It was the first time Liverpool FC were able to celebrate a League title in 35 years with their ardent fans after the championship success of 2020 was won behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Liverpool superstar Mohammed Salah, who scored his 200th goal in the Spurs victory, admitted this title success much better than the previous win as it could be shared with the Red supporters.
“It is incredible to win this with our fans,” Salah said. “This is 100% better than last time [in 2020], especially with the fans. We have a different group now so to show we can do it again is something special.”
Kolisi is a long-time favourite at Anfield after previously visiting legendary former manager Jurgen Klopp, who led Liverpool to the 2020 championship title.
The Bok skipper also recently hosted Klopp in Cape Town when the German visited the Mother City as a patron of Hout Bay FC.
