Kaizer Chiefs have the chance to move past their recent Betway Premiership setback as they prepare for the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round first-leg clash against Angolan side Kabuscorp on Saturday at the 11 November Stadium (5pm kick-off).

Everyone associated with the club will be hoping that their recent challenges do not lead to the same pattern as last year, when a promising start failed to translate into sustained success.

They, however, can draw confidence from the impact of new signings, who have brought fresh energy and depth to the squad.

New recruit Siphesihle Ndlovu has made a solid start since joining from Supersport United. Despite facing stiff competition for a starting spot, he has welcomed the challenge while also recognizing the value of the experienced players within the team.

“We have quite a number of signings, which I am happy about,” Ndlovu said.

“You need competition within the club to stay at your best. We have players like Zitha (Kwinika), Bruce (Bvuma), and Miguel (Inacio), and we are very happy they have shown leadership within the squad.

“If you get your chance, you need to deliver because there is competition in the team.”

At this critical point in the season, leadership within the squad will be vital, particularly in a two-legged continental tie where any inconsistencies or mistakes can prove costly. Chiefs will be aiming to get a positive result in the first leg away from home to take a strong advantage into the second leg at the FNB Stadium.

Ndlovu, an experienced campaigner, will play a key role as Amakhosi navigate a busy schedule. He has expressed satisfaction with his start at the club and is keen to set an example for younger players.

“This move was inspired by my father,” he said.

“I have a ‘donkey mentality,’ and that is what I bring to the club. I focus only on working hard, and I hope others, especially the younger players, can take that mindset and apply it in the future.”

Reflecting on an early-season highlight, Ndlovu singled out his goal against Polokwane City as pivotal in helping him settle at the club and demonstrate his capabilities.

“It was against Polokwane City, and that alone speaks to who I am and what I bring to the club. I’m happy it happened early because I usually score later in the season.

“It was very important for my confidence and for the technical team, because I hadn’t spent much time with them and the league was already underway. It was crucial for me to repay their trust in me.”
