Stellenbosch FC are reportedly closing in on three key signings that could play a major role in reviving their campaign and spark a strong resurgence in the second half of the season.

Since taking charge at the Cape Winelands club, Gavin Hunt has wasted little time in targeting experienced and high-profile players, and the latest names linked with Stellies suggest a clear intent to strengthen across the pitch. Should these potential arrivals materialise, they could provide the balance, depth and cutting edge needed to turn promise into results as the season progresses.

Below is a closer look at the players linked with a move to Stellenbosch FC and what each could offer.

Tshegofatso Mabasa

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa was signed on loan by Stellies on Monday, after finding opportunities limited under Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. Despite being given a handful of chances earlier in the season, Mabasa has struggled to secure regular minutes, as Ouaddou has opted for other attacking options.

Mabasa has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals — a respectable return considering his limited involvement. With the striker entering the final six months of his contract at Pirates, a temporary move could suit all parties.

Previously linked with champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Mabasa will now finish the season with Stellenbosch.

For Stellies, the potential arrival of Mabasa could be timely. The club has struggled in front of goal, managing just 10 goals in 14 league matches. A proven finisher, Mabasa would offer an immediate scoring threat and the ability to convert chances consistently. With the right service, he has shown he can deliver goals at the top level, giving Hunt a reliable option to lead the line.

Mosa Lebusa

Experienced defender Mosa Lebusa is believed to be on the verge of being announced as a Stellenbosch player on a permanent basis after leaving Sundowns. Defensive frailties have been a concern for the Winelands side this season, with 18 goals conceded in 14 matches highlighting the need for reinforcement at the back.

Lebusa brings with him valuable experience, including exposure to continental competition and the demands of a packed schedule at a top club. His leadership, positional awareness and composure could provide much-needed stability to a defence that has often struggled under pressure. Beyond the league, his experience would also be invaluable in their Caf Confederations Cup participation

Kobamelo Kodisang

Kobamelo Kodisang is another player linked with a potential loan move to Stellenbosch after a difficult spell at Mamelodi Sundowns, where regular game time has been hard to come by. The midfielder’s versatility and energy could make him a useful addition to Hunt’s squad.

Stellenbosch have lost key figures in recent seasons, most notably Andre de Jong, and Kodisang’s work rate and European experience could help fill that void. Comfortable in multiple midfield roles, he offers both tactical flexibility and intensity, qualities that could prove crucial if the move is completed.
