Fresh off the news that Andile Mpisane has signed for his mother’s team Mbabane Highlanders AM, fans have had mixed reactions to his move.
The 24-year-old DJ and rapper turned wannabe professional footballer has been training with the side based in Mbabane, Eswatini.
Mpisane’s mother Shauwn Mkhize was appointed as club president of the club in July, and her first move was to add the AM at the end of the name. The AM, of course, are the initials of her son’s name.
This comes after Royal AM, which Mkhize owned, was booted out of the Betway Premiership in South African for unpaid tax debt of around R40 million.
Mpisane had previously featured for Royal AM on the pitch, and by all accounts did not belong on the field alongside professional footballers.
Now, it seems the multi-talented (just not in football) Mpisane will try again to make a success of his time on the field once more.
Fans on social media have been split in their reactions on Facebook.
Robert Dlamini wrote: “Turning the team into a social club”
Thabiso Matola hit back: “A fit Andile Mpisane is better than a lot of players if he were to work on his physique.”
Mantjolo Xolani meanwhile was far less complimentary in saying: “Comedy show.”
Thulani Khumalo echoed those sentiments when he said: “Nonsene.”
Samuel Mtsetfwa said: “Aah this Andile happens to like football but not fit and not a good player. no wonder some highlander fans were not happy.”
In a quite sarcastic statement, Thando Mhlungwane said: “Top goalscorer of the season this one.”
