Springbok prop Wilco Louw will make a long-awaited return to Cape Town when he rejoins the Stormers on a long-term deal ahead of the 2026/27 United Rugby Championship (URC) season.
A product of HTS Drostdy in Worcester, Louw first broke into the Stormers' setup in 2015, quickly establishing himself as one of the most formidable scrummagers in the game. His dominance at the set-piece and tireless work around the field earned him a Springbok debut in 2017, and he has since developed into one of the most respected front-rowers on the international stage.
Most recently, he delivered some strong scrummaging performances off the bench for the Boks, adding some grunt in the runaway victory of 43-10 over the All Blacks in Wellington in the Rugby Championship.
For Stormers fans, the return of the 30-year-old is hugely significant. Louw will be adding to his 46 caps for the Cape side, bringing not only experience and muscle but also a deep understanding of the team’s scrum culture.
Director of Rugby John Dobson described Louw’s signing as a statement of intent, linking it directly to their long-term “Project 2029” vision.
“Wilco made his name as a Stormer, he grew up in this region, and he has become one of the most respected props in the world. Bringing him back is a major move for us. He fits perfectly into what we are building, both on and off the field.”
Louw, who will spend one more season at the Bulls before his return, shared his excitement about coming home.
“I am focused on this season with my current team, but I’m really looking forward to being back in Cape Town. I know the players, coaches and staff well, and I believe this will be a really positive step for me.”
His homecoming underlines the Stormers’ ambition to remain contenders at the highest level. With Louw anchoring the scrum once again, the Capetonians will be well-placed to strengthen their push for URC and Champions Cup glory.
