The District Netball League (DNL) has announced the launch of its Netball Development Programme in February 2026.

This initiative, a transformative step for grassroots sport, aims to harness netball’s significant potential to drive youth empowerment, women’s engagement, and community uplift, and is officially endorsed by the Cape Town Netball Federation.

It stands as a robust platform for youth development, women’s empowerment, education, and community uplift, utilising the transformative power of sport.

Officially endorsed by the Cape Town Netball Federation, the programme is a significant leap towards nurturing and professionalising netball at both grassroots and elite levels across the region.

With support from GEA, a renowned global technology supplier listed on the German DAX, the DNL programme is expected to make significant strides in promoting netball.

In addition, Stadio University has become the official sponsor of the Under-19 Division, thereby expanding training and competitive opportunities for young netball players across South Africa. 3 Cube Management Fast 3 joins as a key partner, adding a spark of national visibility and dynamic energy.

“This partnership represents more than a sports event; it’s a movement toward empowerment, education, and sustainable growth,” stated Dr Freda Kemp, the visionary Founder and Director of the DNL Tournament and Netball Development Programme.

“Together with our sponsors, the Cape Town Netball Federation, and our future partners, we aim to build a legacy that strengthens communities and nurtures South Africa’s emerging talent.”

The DNL Netball Development Programme is meticulously designed, with structured components that integrate sport development, education, and social impact.

One standout initiative within this framework is the Goal Getters Division, led by Luhandri van der Merwe, which focuses on early childhood development for children ages 3 to 5, emphasising foundational motor skills, teamwork, and healthy living habits through engaging sports and play.

The excitement surrounding the 2026 tournament will kick off with a Gala Opening and Fundraising Event on 5 February at Fairmont, Durbanville, celebrating excellence, empowerment, and community spirit.

Matches take place on 6 and 7 February 2026, and will also be broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 216, giving viewers across South Africa a front-row seat to women’s sport at its finest.

Funds raised at this event will be pivotal, enabling Cape Town players to attend the prestigious Spar National Championships and proudly represent their province on a national stage.

Furthermore, the tournament will welcome 30 elite players and mentors from across South Africa, who will engage with local teams, fostering a mentorship model that bridges the gap between seasoned athletes and aspiring young players and inspires the next generation of women in sport.

Beyond the excitement of competition, the programme plays a crucial role in local economic development by creating jobs and supporting entrepreneurship. Coaches, umpires, event coordinators, and local suppliers in logistics, catering, and sports equipment will enrich the community.
