Proteas coach Shukri Conrad will be monitoring the fitness of Kwena Maphaka after the teenage fast bowler suffered a hamstring strain in the CSA 4-Day Series over the weekend.
Maphaka bowled with good pace in the Lions’ innings and 134-run win over Western Province with a day to spare at Newlands.
But the left-arm seamer delivered just 5.5 overs in Province’s first innings, picking up 2/32, and required allrounder Evan Jones to complete his sixth over.
However, after a couple of days' rest whilst the Lions’ batters posted a mammoth 552/9, Maphaka took the new ball for the Lions again and sent down 10 overs, whilst collecting a further 3/26.
Lions' management have, though, confirmed to Independent Media that Maphaka does have “a slight hammie niggle”.
The teenager will undergo an MRI scan on Monday to ascertain the full extent of the damage to his hamstring.
Maphaka is not part of the Proteas’ Test squad that departs for Pakistan on Tuesday with Conrad hoping the youngster could get some extra miles in his legs before joining the touring party for the white-ball leg of the tour.
The 19-year-old has been selected in both the T20I and ODI squads with the first T20I scheduled for October 28 in Rawalpindi.
The Proteas face off against Pakistan in two Tests (Lahore and Rawalpindi) before switching to three T20Is (Rawalpindi and Lahore) and three ODIs in Faisalabad.
