MI Cape Town coach Robin Peterson admits they conceded too many runs during their back-to-back losses at the picturesque clash at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town.
The defending champions, MI Cape Town, have had a rather disappointing start to their campaign, losing two games at home and are currently without a victory a week into the tournament.
Coach Robin Peterson admitted that they conceded too many runs on what has been a flat pitch at Newlands.
“I think we're probably chasing too many runs in each innings. We're just probably putting our batters under pressure. You can't ask them to go and chase 220 every game,” Peterson said.
“Teams have played well against us. We've been a little bit short in our execution with the ball, but there are good players in that dressing room. We only played two games in the competition, with one being drained out.
“It's been a bit of a stop-start affair for us. We've just got to get back to the drawing board, take a long look at ourselves. It's a quick turnaround to our next game, so we can't linger too long on this.”
Peterson reiterated that their start has been rather frustrating.
“I think it has been a bit frustrating. We played one game, gone to Durban and it rained out, back here, (we were) not at our best. So it has been a bit frustrating, but that's no excuse. These guys do this for a living year in, year out.
“They go across tournaments and perform for their various teams across the globe. So we've just got to sharpen up more mentally and up our execution rate, I think, in all facets. We've all got to look at ourselves at the end of the day.
“That's what you do when you're a team. I think it's not only pointing fingers at one department. I think we've all got to look at each other within the group and see how we can turn it around quickly.
“We've only played two games. We still have another seven left. We've shown that the guys in the dressing room that have won this competition before and have experienced pain.”
Peterson’s troops will be in action in Paarl against the Royals on Friday. The clash is set to get underway at 5.30pm.
