Durban’s Super Giants’ all-rounder Evan Jones revealed that the side carries a lot of confidence from their nail-biting clash against the Joburg Super Kings at Wanderers Stadium on Thursday.
The Super Giants and Super Kings put on a show at the Bullring on Thursday, with both teams crossing the 200-run mark and taking the game to the super-over where the Super Kings walked away a victory.
Jones believes the Durban’s Super Giants have taken confidence from their performance at the Bullring.
“We take this game as a good thing. We came up quite close. I feel with the experience in our team, with a young fast bowler, I think we cover a lot of boxes,” Jones said.
“(We just need to)Keep our heads down, play good cricket, play against ourselves, compete against ourselves, and I'm pretty sure the results will take care of itself.”
Jones lauded the two teams for a good showing of skill and temperament.
“I think at the end of the day, (we showed) good skills. I think it's two brilliant teams, two good coaching staff to send the players on with good plans. It's just great for cricket, I reckon,” he said.
“The crowd was fantastic. I can't say much, just brilliant everywhere, batting, bowling, crowd, so just all good.
“We've been working a lot, standing still, and make sure if the bowler misses, I cash in. It's basically been as simple as possible. That's basically it.
“Conditions-wise, brilliant pitch. There was a bit something with the new ball. The spinners bowled very well tonight.
“There was a slight stop in the wickets, but as soon as they went to the death overs, the ball was nice, the wicket was nice, and you could stand still, and like I say, if they miss, hopefully cash in.
“The emotions are running high, so once again, it's backing your skills, so we do a lot of work behind closed doors, if I may. Then if you go out there, it's autopilot.”
Jones and his teammates will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Pretoria to take on the Capitals at SuperSport Park.
The clash is set to get underway at 5.30 SAST with the Joburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape setting the tone for the day with a clash in Johannesburg at 1pm SAST.
