Proteas all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy brought up a maiden Test century in the second session of Day Two at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.

The all-rounder finished unbeaten on 107 off 203 deliveries, a knock that included ten fours and two sixes, as he took South Africa to 428/7 going into the lunch interval.

Having been dropped for the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata last week despite having finished as Player of the Series in Pakistan last month, Muthusamy starred once again in Test cricket.

The 31-year-old walked away with the ICC Player of the Month award in October for his tremendous effort in Pakistan and picked up where he left off in the second Test in Guwahati.

The left-hander carried South Africa on his back and helped the team cross the 400-run mark, building a strong platform for a substantial first-innings total.

The spin-bowling all-rounder’s achievement was a measure of redemption, considering his debut in India six years ago had been a tough experience, as he returned and dominated in Guwahati.

Muthusamy built an 88-run stand with Verreynne (45) for the seventh wicket, the highest partnership of the series thus far after Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs’ effort on Day One.

He went on to add 94 with Marco Jansen (50 not out) for the eighth wicket, helping South Africa consolidate their strong position at the ACA Stadium.

Jansen was impressive as he brought up his fourth half-century in his 20-match Test career.
