Fresh from their historic ICC World Test Championship victory, the Proteas will take to the streets of Cape Town on Friday as part of a national victory tour, marking their first ICC trophy in over 20 years.
The triumph has given the team a chance to silence critics and reconnect with a public that has not always been forgiving in the build-up to the tournament.
In recent months, the Proteas have faced intense scrutiny over their form, selection issues, and tournament snubs. Friday’s celebrations, however, are expected to highlight how the Proteas have shifted the narrative, turning doubt into national pride.
With the country marking Heritage Month, the win also serves as a timely reminder of the power of sport to unite South Africans across divides.
In partnership with Cricket South Africa, the City of Cape Town has arranged a parade that will begin at 11am on the Grand Parade in front of the City Hall, where fans can enjoy entertainment before a public meet-and-greet with the players.
At 1pm, the team bus, led by captain Temba Bavuma, will depart for a procession through the CBD.
The parade route will include Darling Street, Adderley Street, Wale Street, Long Street, Buitensingel, Loop Street, and Strand Street, before returning to Adderley Street.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, has urged residents and businesses to line the streets to give the team the welcome they deserve.
"This is an opportunity for us to celebrate their success, especially the ICC World Test Champions victory... we can fill the streets, celebrate together, and give the Proteas the heroes' welcome they deserve," he said.
The victory parade is part of a larger tour celebrating the team's success, which has brought together a nation proud of its cricketing champions.
