Kimberley is gearing up for its annual Easter weekend drag racing event – a much-loved fixture on the local calendar that blends high-speed action with a buzzing social vibe.
Racers and fans from across the country are expected to descend on the old Bloemfontein Road quarter-mile strip for a weekend of tyre-smoking fun and fierce competition.
Racing enthusiasts, drivers and petrolheads from Gauteng and beyond will be rolling into town with adrenaline still coursing through their veins after a dramatic outing at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit last weekend.

Mohammed Karodia and Ethan Coetzee each claimed a race victory, with Coetzee ultimately taking the overall win for the day, keeping the title fight alive.
The event also marked the debut of new technical upgrades – including bigger turbochargers and improved aerodynamics – adding to the intensity of the competition. In the Masters division, Bevin Masters surprised with a win in the first race before Wayne Masters reclaimed dominance in the second.
Now just imagine if street racers from Gauteng were there at Kyalami witnessing the roar of upgraded turbochargers, the squeal of fresh tyres, and the whoosh of aerodynamic tweaks bring that same intensity and adrenaline and intensity to Kimberley.
Kimberley racers will need to up their game, no doubt!
However, for local fans, it’s more than just about the racing. The Easter weekend drags are a chance to gather, connect, and soak in the atmosphere – fast cars, loud engines, and good company under the Kimberley sun … provided it doesn’t rain, which seems to have become a feature of Kimberley’s Easter weekend.
But whatever the weather brings, expect plenty of action on the strip and even more stories off it.
So whether you're coming to compete, spectate, or just enjoy the vibe, this weekend promises the kind of Easter memories you won’t find in a chocolate egg.
