The Aubrey Tau Foundation has announced a R250 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of two young women in Mamelodi, Pretoria on Sunday October 26, 2025.

In partnership with Moja Love TV, the Foundation has called on South Africans to come forward with any credible information that could help bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement, Aubrey Tau, founder of the organisation, condemned the increasing violence against women in South Africa.

“Extreme violence against women in South Africa has been on the rise. It cannot be that young women, regardless of the allegations circulating on social media, are murdered in such a brutal and senseless way,” said Tau.

“We cannot stand idle and do nothing,” Tau added. “This act demands accountability, and we call on South Africans to unite in the fight against gender-based violence.”

The City of Tshwane has also expressed deep concern over the tragedy.

“The city is heartbroken by this horrific incident that has claimed innocent lives,” said the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health, Tshegofatso Mashabela, who extended condolences to the victims’ families and the broader Mamelodi community.

Mashabela confirmed that the Department of Health is deploying trauma and psychosocial support teams to assist grieving families and community members affected by the incident.

“Our presence will not be symbolic, it will be a commitment to action, care, and justice,” she stated, adding that she would personally visit the affected families to ensure they receive counselling and medical support.

“We cannot allow lives to be lost while the community continues to live without answers or protection,” Mashabela said.

Tshwane District Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk confirmed that officers from SAPS Mamelodi East responded to the scene on Sompisi Street around 6.15am on Sunday after residents discovered the bodies.

“Upon arrival, police found the bodies of two female victims, aged 21 and 22, both with gunshot wounds to the head,” said Van Dyk.

It is reported that a double murder investigation has been opened.

“The motive for this horrific incident is unknown at this stage,” he said, urging community members to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation.
