Four men to appear in court over DJ Sumbody's murder

In a significant development in the high-profile murder case of beloved South African DJ Oupa Sefoka, widely known by his stage name DJ Sumbody, four men have been arrested and are set to appear before the Alexander Magistrate's Court this morning.

The suspects, aged between 45 and 60, were taken into custody on Monday afternoon in Gauteng as detectives made substantial progress in a case that has captured nationwide attention since the DJ's tragic death in November 2022.

Oupa Sefoka was killed in a hail of bullets last year, prompting a dedicated investigation led by the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit. As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement officials recognised the complexities of the case, leading to the involvement of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team to enhance investigative efforts.

Among those arrested, three are believed to be hitmen and one is suspected of ordering the DJ's assassination. The weapon allegedly used has been confiscated and is reportedly linked to several other murder cases.

General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, praised the collaborative efforts of the two investigative teams, highlighting the extensive work that has gone into piecing together evidence since Sefoka's death.

“This is a culmination of hard work and dedication to justice. This is one of those complex cases that our teams needed to take their time in ensuring a thorough investigation so that we could ultimately bring a strong case before court,” said General Masemola, expressing hope that the arrests will bring some measure of closure to the grieving families involved.
