A South African Police Service (SAPS) captain attached to the Forensic Science Laboratory has been arrested on charges of defeating the ends of justice following an operation by the Commission's Recommendations Task Team, authorities have confirmed.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the suspect was arrested at his residence in Pretoria on Friday.
This was after investigators linked him to allegations involving interference in several high-profile murder investigations, as well as evidence presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Mathe said the arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct in serious criminal cases currently under scrutiny.
During the operation, investigators also seized state property, including ballistic reports, ammunition, and other evidential material linked to active investigations.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday.
