Essential road closures for the Two Oceans Marathon you need to know

The 55th edition of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon and Half Marathon takes place this weekend.

On Saturday, the Ultra Marathon will take runners on its iconic 56km journey through the Southern Suburbs, False Bay coastline, Chapman’s Peak, and Constantia, finishing at the foot of Table Mountain at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

The Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, April 12, with a 21.1km route through the Southern Suburbs, culminating at UCT Rugby Field.

The City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for safety and security, Alderman JP Smith, said marathon week attracts over 30,000 participants to the event with more than 4,500 international runners from 98 countries attending the event in 2025.

This is the detailed list of road closures for the Two Oceans Marathon this weekend.

“As we welcome thousands of runners and visitors, we are reminded of the Two Oceans Marathon’s role in strengthening Cape Town’s position as a leading destination for sport and active lifestyle tourism, while showcasing our capability as a world-class host of major events,” Smith said. 

Residents and motorists are advised that an extensive traffic management plan will be implemented in key routes in Green Point, Sea Point, Southern Suburbs, Deep South, Chapman’s Peak Drive, and False Bay coastal routes. 

For the Ultra Marathon on Saturday, road closures and restrictions will be implemented from 3am on race day throughout the route. 

Chapman’s Peak Drive will be closed from 6pm on Friday,  April 10, until 12pm on Saturday.

Road closures impacting Newlands Main Road, M3 Southbound, Paradise Road, Ladies Mile Extension, and Rhodes Avenue, among others, will be in place from 3am on Sunday.
