One of Cape Town’s most beloved dining spots, the Seven Spur in Sea Point, will be closing its doors mid-August, at least for now, as the restaurant searches for a new home.
Seven Spur, the second-oldest Spur Steak Ranch in South Africa, opened its doors in 1968 following the launch of the very first branch in Newlands a year earlier.
Originally located at the corner of Main and Conifer Roads, the restaurant moved twice before settling in Arthur's Road in 2006.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Spur Steak Ranches announced the closure, saying;
“It’s time for this legendary spot to find a new home. While we search for the perfect new location, we’d love to hear from you. If you’ve ever dined at Seven Spur, shared a laugh, or made a memory, drop it in the comments and let’s celebrate the good times together.”
The post reassured fans, adding, “We’ll be back, and when we are, you’ll be the first to know.”
Customers have already shared their fond memories online.
Amber Elizabeth Thewlis shared a tribute from her late husband Doug, who was deeply involved with the Spur franchise.
“My husband Doug was closely involved with the Spur franchise as he fitted out most of their kitchens, unfortunately he died a few years ago, but felt I had to keep his memory alive by responding to this message. Good luck in all your ventures guys.”
Others reminisced about special moments at Seven Spur.
“Met up with a special someone here after not seeing each other for over a year, being on different continents. Shared an amazing meal and loved the vibe. Something to always remember,” Ziona Smith
Morne Janson recalled a personal milestone.
“Only went there once in 2016, but this was the most memorable SPUR experience I ever had, and will SURELY never forget. Enjoying a steak, done to perfection, after completing my very first TWO OCEAN marathon.... That was the taste of VICTORY. Sad to hear you are moving.”
As Cape Town bids farewell to this iconic dining destination for now, loyal patrons look forward to Seven Spur’s return in a new location where more memories will no doubt be made.
