Suspended SAPS deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is expected back at the Madlanga Commission on Thursday, vowing to dismantle allegations he says are politically driven and designed to end his career.

In a testimony on Wednesday, Sibiya denied any friendship with alleged cartel figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and rejected claims that he benefited financially from him.

He told the commission there is no evidence linking him to criminal networks and insisted attempts to paint him as compromised are baseless.

But Sibiya did more than defend himself. He turned his fire on the police top brass.

He testified that national commissioner, Gen. Fannie Masemola, instructed him to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), allegedly acting on a directive from Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.

The disbandment of the unit has been a central flashpoint in the inquiry.

Sibiya also accused KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police commissioner, Lt-Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, of colluding with the MK Party to orchestrate his removal, describing his suspension as a calculated political campaign.

He drew parallels to his dramatic 2015 suspension as Gauteng Hawks head.

The commission is probing allegations of interference, political meddling and possible links between police officials and criminal syndicates.
